What is PHE?

The Project for Historical Education is a collaboration between the UNC School of Education and History Department. A flourishing program in UNC’s History Department during the 1990s, PHE's activities ceased after 2002 due to funding problems. In the fall of 2006, the PHE was revived with the help of new financial support and a new collaborative plan that includes both the School of Education and the History Department. The PHE is now once again organizing programs for public school teachers on new approaches to historical research and pedagogy, stressing the importance of dialogue and conversation among UNC faculty, public school teachers, and future teachers. The goal is to strengthen and support historical education in North Carolina.

Here is another map of campus parking which you may find useful:

The entrance to the Cobb Deck from South Road (westbound) can be easy to miss. It is a right-hand turn into a one-lane driveway at the far edge of the cemetary. If you drive past it, turn right onto Raleigh Road and look for the Cobb Deck entrance on the right. (If you get to Cameron Ave. you've gone too far.)

From the Cobb Deck walk (more or less) due west to the Polk Place quad. Dey Hall is on the southwest corner. If you are unfamiliar with the UNC-CH campus, we recommend that you print out and bring a map.

Location: Toy Lounge is located on the top floor of Dey Hall, which is on the west side of the Polk Place quad. (See below for link to campus map.) When you enter the building, immediately turn left and look for the stairwell on the right. Climb two flights to the top floor. When you exit the stairwell, turn right. Toy Lounge will be in front of you. Or, to get to the elevator, go straight when you enter the building. At the end of the hallway, turn left. You will be standing in front of the elevator. Take it to the 4th floor.
