Teacher's Guide: During the Mission
Watching the video
Whether you watch the video live or later, you can use these activities to keep students focused on what they're watching and
- If you're watching archived video, stop periodically to reinforce terms or themes.
- Have students use the Map of the Aquarius Habitat in the Field Guide to locate the aquanauts.
- Have students record what they see in the Organisms and Habitat Field Notes in the Field Guide.
We have also prepared teacher background notes and student field guides for each webcast:
- Home Under the Sea: Background for teachers (PDF) | Student viewing guide (PDF)

Planning the Aquarius Mission
This activity could be done during any down time during the live video or at a natural break in the archived video. Print and cut out the Aquarius Planning Steps on cardstock. (Keep one copy in tact as an answer key.) Make enough copies for students to work in groups of four. Students groups should attempt to descramble steps scientists took to plan the Aquarius mission. This activity makes for a great discussion afterwards. What did students discover about scientific research and planning? What surprised them? What step did they think was left out? Would they have planned differently?
