Overview of 2004 Computer/Technology Skills Standard Course of Study
The K-12 Computer/Technology Skills Standard Course of Study Document was approved by the North Carolina State Board of Education February 2004. This K-12 Computer/Technology Skills Standard Course of Study is based on the Goals and Objectives in the 1998 SCS document with the following refinements:
* All objectives are stated in clear precise language
* Each strand follows a specific pattern from grade to grade.
* NC Goals are aligned with ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS*S).
Societal /Ethical Issues Strand Objectives were refined to focus on:
* Respect for the work of others, Intellectual Property, Copyright, Fair Use, and Acceptable Use Policy/Internet Use Policy (AUP/IUP)
* Responsible, safe and ethical behaviors online,
security, privacy, passwords, personal information
* Operating in a complex technology environment
Telecommunications/Internet Strand Objectives were refined to focus on:
* Respect for the work of others Intellectual Property, Copyright, Fair Use, (AUP/IUP)
* Safe, responsible, and ethical behavior online, security, privacy, passwords, personal information
* Evaluating quality of resources and information online
* Collaborative tools
* Advantages and limitations of collecting/disseminating information/ideas online
Multimedia/Presentation Strand
* Personal Safety Issues guidelines for personal information, images
* Respect for the work of others, Intellectual Property, Copyright, Fair Use, (AUP/IUP)
