2008 PAEMST Finalists

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE…


The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the Nation's highest honors for teachers of mathematics and science. The Awards recognize highly qualified K-12 teachers for their contributions in the classroom and to their profession.The National Science Foundation has announced the 2008 North Carolina Finalists for these prestigious awards.

For K-6 Mathematics Teaching, the finalists are
•Kathleen Conroy, Providence Spring Elementary School, Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
•Rosemary Klein, Bailey Middle School, Cornelius, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
•Tracy Thomas, Meadow Lane Elementary School, Goldsboro, Wayne County Public Schools

For K-6 Science Teaching, the finalists are
•Sarah Klingler, Dr. Jay M. Robinson Middle School, Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
•Scott Reynolds, TIF-LEAP Initiative (formerly Winterfield Elementary School), Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
•Carol Swink Wooten, Hunter Gifted & Talented Magnet Elementary School, Raleigh, Wake County Public Schools


These outstanding mathematics and science educators will be recognized at an awards reception in December. They are now in competition for the State Awards to be determined by a national select committee on behalf of the White House and the National Science Foundation. The state winners receive a $10,000 award and a week in Washington, DC for recognition events for themselves and a guest.

Nominations for The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE…

The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the Nation's highest honors for teachers of mathematics and science. The Awards recognize highly qualified K-12 teachers for their contributions in the classroom and to their profession.The National Science Foundation will be opening nominations for the 2009 PAEMST application round shortly.

Those interested in nominating secondary science and mathematics teachers, grades 7 – 12, for the 2009 application round should visit the “Nomination” section of www.paemst.org through April 1, 2009 to complete the nomination form.

Since 1983, more than 3,700 outstanding teachers have been recognized for their contributions to mathematics and science education. If you know great teachers, nominate them to join this prestigious network of professionals.
