HEALTH EDUCATION SUMMER SERIES

The North Carolina Alliance for Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NCAAHPERD) in collaboration with the Healthful Living K-12 Programs Section of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI-Healthful Living) invite you to attend the:
2008 Effective Health Education Summer Series. This series will be offered in 3 locations statewide and will address content specific Health Education instructional topics.

Healthful Living K - H.S. Cross Curricular Connections

This K - High School document illustrates how Health Education and Physical Education Standard Course of Study Objectives connect to other disciplines. Although this document does NOT represent all possible connections, it does provide teachers and school curriculum coordinators with opportunities to link disciplines so that content is more meaningful, relevant and contextual.

HEALTH EDUCATION CURRICULUM ASSESSMENT TOOL IS HERE!

The Division of Adolescent School Health at the CDC has released the Health Education Curriculum Assessment Tool (HECAT). This device mirrors the Physical Education Curriculum Assessment Tool (PECAT) which was distributed statewide May 2007.

Rely on this tool to assist with comprehenisve sequential K - High School Health Education in your schools. "The Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (HECAT) can help school districts, schools, and others conduct a clear, complete, and consistent analysis of health education curricula based on the National Health Education Standards and CDC’s Characteristics of Effective Health Education Curricula. The HECAT results can help schools select or develop appropriate and effective health education curricula and improve the delivery of health education. The HECAT can be customized to meet local community needs and conform to the curriculum requirements of the state or school district.", CDC-DASH 2008

The following HECAT health topic modules are currently available:

* Alcohol and Other Drugs
* Healthy Eating
* Physical Activity
* Tobacco

Additional modules will be added to the CDC-DASH site as they are completed.
