ELA Live! Podcast 8: Chelonnda Seroyer

http://community.learnnc.org/dpi/ela/ELA-Live-Podcast-8-Chelonnda-Seroyer.mp3

Tune in to ELA Live! Podcast 8 with Chelonnda Seroyer, who, according to Dr. Harry Wong is “…the only teacher I share the podium with.” Chelonnda’s story and advice are inspirational, and one listen to this podcast will show why Harry Wong’s words ring true.
When her mother died, she asked to be taken back to the high school from which she graduated.
Chelonnda Seroyer had been warned in education classes not to share too much of her personal life with her students, but she felt obligated to do so. She told her 11th and 12th graders that her mother died when she was 17 years old and that she has been on her own ever since then. In fact, for two months after her mother’s passing she searched for a place to call “home” and college never seemed like an option to her at that time. (Teachers.net)

For more of Chelonnda’s story, visit http://teachers.net/wong/FEB05/ and read the article “The Power of Proceedures.”

“I had been a teacher for exactly three weeks and never felt so ineffective and totally out of control in my life,” wrote Stacy Hennessee, a first-year lateral entry teacher who had spent only three weeks teaching Business Education/Computer Technology as this story begins. (Teacher.net)
Tune in to hear Stacy’s turn-around tale, and his message to teachers, old and new, in this ELA live podcast interview. Stacy was one of Dr. Harry Wong’s featured speakers at the Model Teacher Consortium’s Instructional Institute for Lateral Entry and Inexperienced Teachers. This interview, recorded in the Friday Center in Chapel Hill on September 11, 2008 highlights Stay’s journey from a man with a quickly degenerating dream of teaching to one who discovers that the power to teach effectively is a matter of practice and procedure. You don’t want to miss this one!
