Counselor/Administrator Management Agreement

The Counselor/Administrator Management Agreement serves the purpose of guiding discussion and planning between the school counselor and school administrator regarding the effective implementation of the school counseling program to meet student needs. Agreements should be personalized to the school while maintaining the integrity of the components of the school counselor job description.

]]> The State Board of Education approved the new North Carolina School Counselor Job Description in their June 1, 2006, meeting. The new School Counselor Job Description was prepared collaboratively by representatives from school districts, institutions of higher education, professional organizations and the Department of Public Instruction. This job description is intended to be a guide for the implementation of comprehensive school counseling programs in the public schools of North Carolina.

NC School Counseling Program Review: A Statewide Survey and Comprehensive Assessment

In October 2005, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction commissioned EDSTAR, Inc. to conduct a statewide assessment of school counseling services in North Carolina. ]]> Much of the findings of the NC School Counseling Program Review: A Statewide Survey and Comprehensive Assessment were consistent with the best practices described in The ASCA National Model: A Framework for School Counseling Programs. School counselors utilizing models such as The ASCA National Model were able to provide data that definitively showed their students were being more successful as a result of comprehensive school counseling programs. Another major finding of this study was that excessive non-counseling duties were seriously detrimental to the capacity of school counselors to provide students with services necessary for student success.
